17 Places to Get Moving (and Bring your Pup!) This Week (4/9 - 4/15)

Well, the weather in the Valley hasn't exactly gotten the spring memo yet, but our events list keeps growing! Here's a list of 17 places you can check out this week for a bit of mindfulness, movement, and even 2 events you can bring your pet to (dog-friendly movie anyone??). You'll be so busy during the earlier part of the week so you can enjoy the 70s we are supposed to get on Friday and Saturday—finally!

Monday

5 Buck Breakfast Bites (9-10am / $5)
Start your week on the right foot by meeting nutritionist Laura Scarpino for a healthy breakfast at the Restoration Space in Bethlehem. She'll guide you through the basics of clean eating and answer any questions you may have about your nutrition journey.

Isle of Dogs Dog-Friendly Screening (7:30-9:15pm / human prices vary; dogs $5)
This new Wes Anderson movie tells the story of an entire island of dogs...and your pup can join in the viewing! Lights will be dimmed and sound quieter to let your dog enjoy the show so you can hug your best friend at the cute parts!

Tuesday 

Yin-Yang Yoga (5:30-6:45pm / $5 for yoga; $7 for meditation)
This yoga combo class at the Beleno Center merges 20 minutes of vinyasa yoga with a more chill 50 minutes of yin yoga, which uses mostly seated postures. Great for beginners and veterans and followed by an optional mediation class for those that wish to stay and clear their minds a bit more.

Paint & Create at Fiamma Italian Grill (6:30-9pm / $25)
Feed your face with some yummy stuff from Fiamma's menu and let Paint of Mind guide you through creating your own artwork. Grab tickets here.

Wednesday

Functional Movement Screening & Resistance Stretching (6-8pm / Free)
At Comprehensive Chiropractic in Allentown, trainers from Body Elite will be doing a short demo to highlight the importance of stretching followed by examples of a stretching routing that can be done daily to hit the typical problems (upper back, shoulders and hips). 

Women's Self Defense Workshop (7:45-9:15pm / Free)
As beautiful and safe as it is here in our Lehigh Valley bubble, it's never a bad idea to know what to do in an unsafe situation. Check out this free class at either the Bethlehem or Allentown branch of Leading Edge Martial Arts so you can prepare and feel the safest you can be. Register here.

Thursday 

Joe's Dinner at Trout Creek Healing Collective (6:30-8:30pm / $8-12)
This week's dinner program is centered around blood sugar and mood stabilization through whole foods. Even if you don't have a blood sugar condition, you can learn about the benefits of whole foods and cook and eat all together. Register here

Champagne & Cupcakes with Girls on the Run (7-9pm / $50) 
Join Girls on the Run Lehigh Valley's 2nd annual Champagne & Cupcakes event at Historic Hotel Bethlehem. Sip on champagne while tasting and voting on several Lehigh Valley bakers' cupcake creations. Learn more and support this great local organization. Grab your tickets here.

Friday

Live Music & Yoga (6:30-7:45pm)
Yoga instructor Brooke Kohler will lead an all levels class set to live guitar music. Head to Easton Yoga and start your weekend with an energetic flow and a bit of free dancing. Price varies for classes.

Comedy Night at Blue Mountain Vineyards (6:30-9:30pm / $20)
Start your weekend with a wine tasting and some adult humor at Blue Mountain in New Tripoli. Three to four local comedians will be there to get you laughing (21 and older only). Bring your own food; wine will be available for purchase. Grab tickets and make a reservation here.

Saturday

Spring Inner Peace Holistic & Metaphysical Expo (10am-6pm / $7 per day; $10 both days)
Running Saturday and Sunday, this expo is a quick trip out 78 to Hamburg. Featuring speakers, mini sessions, and local vendors, find some inner peace this spring. Grab tickets here.

Tomato Grafting Workshop (10am-12pm / $60)
Experts at the Rodale Institute will will show experienced and inexperienced growers and farmers the ancient art of grafting. You'll leave with two grated tomato plants and the confidence to get them off to a good fruitful start. Register here.

Make Your Own Kombucha (12-2pm / $20)

National Pet Day at the Shelby (3-6pm / Free)
Join other LVers on the patio at the Shelby with their pets to celebrate National Pet Day! Treats and special vendors will be there to help enjoy the day.

Sunday

Yoga at Lost Tavern Brewery (10:30-11:30am / $20)
Enjoy an hour of yoga at Lost Tavern, a pint of their beer (try Bramble On, their IPA with fresh raspberries and blackberries), and some time to chill before your week starts. Sign up in the taproom and bring your own mat!

Allentown Fiber Festival (10am-5pm / Free)
Calling all fiber artists! Browse 74 (!) vendors at this festival that brings local fiber crafters together for classes, shopping, and creativity. Learn more about vendors and details here.

Make the Most of Your Urban Garden (1:30-3pm / Free)
Get a ton of bounty out of your small gardening plot with the tips from this workshop at the Easton Public Market Community Room. Learn how to start your own spot and how to navigate seed packets and what to plant when.

11 Things You Should Do This Week in the Lehigh Valley (10/23 – 10/29)

It's a spooky week ahead and it'll be even spookier if you miss out on any of these awesome events happening right in our backyards! We've got glow-filled rides, scuba adventures, and even a chance to strap on some roller skates. Mark your calendars and fill your week with fun on top of fright! 

MONDAY

Walk-In Reiki Mini Sessions at Beleno Healing Center (4pm - 7pm/ $25)
Have you always wanted to check out what Reiki is all about but never had the time? Come swing by Beleno and learn about what this healing practice can bring to you (or, if you’re a seasoned enjoyer of Reiki, come on in and get 15 minutes just for you). This is the final evening of these mini sessions for the season so start your week with some relaxation before the holiday prep really kicks off. More info here.

Yoga Happy Hour at Triple Sun Spirits (6pm - 8pm/ $15)

Glow Rides at ND Wheelhouse (various times/ $10 drop-in)

WEDNESDAY

Halloween Story Time at the Moravian Book Shop, Bethlehem (10:30am - 11:30am/ Free)
Come decked out in your favorite costume at this event geared toward PreK and younger children. The themed story time will end with a costume parade around the shop. A perfect way to get younger kids ready for the spooky season! More info here.

Skate Away Your Stress at Bethlehem Skateaway (6pm - 8:30pm/ Cost varies)

Come dive this weekend in honor of Halloween and you can compete in an underwater pumpkin carving contest or learn how to survive the zombie onslaught at Dutch Springs in Bethlehem. 14 Things You Should Do This Week in the Lehigh Valley (9/25 – 10/1)

Happy Fall, Lehigh Valley! We hope your weekend was amazing at Hardball Cider, Barre3 in the Park, and experiencing some SUP Yoga or one of the other super fun events we mentioned last week. In addition to this week's events, if you're just looking to get outside with family and friends and enjoy the cooler weather, check out our post about the best walking/running trails in the LV right here.

Now that it's officially fall (the weather will catch up eventually, right??), the Valley is exploding with awesome outdoor events to get you ready for falling leaves and cooler temps. Here are some to try this week:

MONDAY

Happy Hour Yoga at Triple Sun Spirits (6 pm - 8 pm/ Cost: $15)

One of our favorite local distilleries is offering a great deal of a 1-hour yoga session complete with yoga mat/block rental and access to their amazing cocktail list to celebrate after you've stretched yourself out. The dates for the Groupon are Monday, 9/25 and another opportunity is Monday 10/23 as well. Sign up here

In-House Pet Chiropractic Services at The Dining Dog (3pm – 6pm / Cost: $45)

Does your pup have chronic hip or back pain issues? Then this is the spot for you. Every Monday, the Dining Dog & Friends pairs up with All Points Equine LLC to bring chiropractic services out of the vet's office. TUESDAY

Doggie "Yappy" Hour for Charity at Fegley’s Allentown Brew Works (5:30 pm – 8:30 pm)

Every week, Fegley’s Allentown Brew Works hosts a “yappy” hour with proceeds from select drinks benefitting a different dog charity (this week: Harnessed to Hope, which is a rescue organization for northern breed dogs).  And of course, there will be pups in attendance. More info here

Jack-O-Lantern Lane at the Da Vinci Science Center (various times; check museum hours)

Spanning until November 5, check out the lights and spooky faces in this walk-through Halloween exhibit for all ages. Come see the 50+ sculpted pumpkins and learn about energy use in the process. For more info and to check museum hours, check things out here.

WEDNESDAY

$5 Yoga Flow Wednesdays at West End Yoga (6pm - 7pm/ Cost: $5)

This is the last week to stop in at West End Yoga for their $5 Yoga Flow taught by recent yoga graduate instructors. This level 2 class teaches some new sequences and might be just what you need to get back into your practice. No need to preregister, but find more info here.

Make a Fall Container Workshop at Palmer Nursery (6pm - 7pm/ Cost: $20)

THURSDAY

Fall Sangria Releases at Sleepy Cat Urban Winery (various times / Cost: Free)

'Tis the season for pumpkin and spices and Sleepy Cat Urban Winery is ready to release their newest fall flavors. The little winery in the middle of the city is just steps away from the 19th Street Theater District so stop by after a show at the Civic Theatre or before dinner downtown! More info here.   

Pub Run with ASICS at Emmaus Run Inn (6pm – 9pm / Cost: Free)

The well-known running resource shop in Emmaus has teamed up with Funk Brewing Company and ASICS to create a pub crawl/run around town, complete with a growler! Special fills along the way and a chance to test out ASICS gear. RSVP and more info here.

FRIDAY

Allentown ArtsFest (runs daily until October 1 / Cost: Free)

Perhaps one of the biggest arts festivals in the Lehigh Valley, Cedar Beach in Allentown comes alive this weekend with local music, artist exhibits, vendors, kids activities (including a skate park), local food and beer, and even more. Come support local art and see what the LV art scene has to offer. More info here

SATURDAY

Intro to Ashtanga Yoga Mysore at Lehigh Valley Yoga (11am - 1 pm/ Cost: $25)

Lehigh Valley Yoga is the Valley's only studio with Traditional Ashtanga classes. This 2-hour workshop is a comprehensive introduction to the Ashtanga (Mysore) practice with all materials included. Guided Horseback Rides Through Jacobsburg State Park (12pm – 5pm / Cost: $50 per rider)

Throughout October and November, Quarter K Ranch offers 1-hour rides through scenic Jacobsburg Park in Nazareth. See how fall has changed the streams, woods, and fields with just 2-6 other riders on this nature-filled short retreat. More info here

Yoga at Allentown Arts Park (12pm – 4pm / Cost: Free)

As part of the Allentown Art Museum's Fall Festival, test your yoga skills with the teachers from Easton Yoga with kids yoga at the Arts Park until 2:30pm and then yoga is open for all ages until 4pm. Be sure to visit the Allentown Art Museum as well for new exhibits, including the International Children's Film Festival. More info here

Hops 4 Hope at Lost Tavern Brewing (10am – 8pm / Cost: $10)

Come enjoy the second annual music and beer festival with food, great beer, and games all to benefit Penn's State's THON efforts against pediatric cancer (100% of profits will go toward charity). More info here.
