Happy April, friends! This warm-ish weather has us extra motivated to get out and try new things. That’s why we’re pumped about this week’s lineup that’s packed with events to help you get moving (Hula hooping!) and get creative (LV Art Wars!)—along with a couple to help you just have some fun (Pajama bar crawl, anyone?).
Pints and Purls at Bethlehem Brew Works (6:30-9:30pm)
If you love to crochet, cross-stitch, knit, or spin, this is the event for you. Crafters of all ages and ability levels are welcome to meet up with likeminded people over a few brews, get or give some tips, and enjoy the knitter camaraderie.
Hoops and Hops—Hula Hooping Workshop at Allentown Brew Works (6:45-7:30pm/ $5)
Say what? A laid back hula hooping class for all ages that involves booze? Count us in! Instructor Ashley Barker apparently teaches on and off body hoop tricks and we have no idea what that means, but we couldn’t be more excited. Come early and hit up happy hour!
Art Tuesday at Union & Finch (6:30-8:30pm)
Want to take the class of your next happy hour up a notch? Then hit up Union & Finch this Tuesday (aka Art Tuesday!) where you’ll get to view work from contemporary artist Domenick Naccarato, whose work finds the beauty in abandoned rustic pieces. Happy hour is from 5-7pm, so get there early.
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off Movie Night at Union & Finch (7pm)
“Bueller?... Bueller?... Bueller?...” Half price wings, beer pitcher specials, and some 80’s nostalgia await you at Union & Finch this Wednesday.
Painting Party at Easton Wine Project (6-9pm/ $35)
Easton’s trendiest new spot for wine lovers is having a paint night! Step-by-step instruction will be provided from a local artist and you’ll be able to purchase a la carte wine, beer, and small plates. Your ticket price includes a 16 x 20" canvas, instruction, aprons for use during event, and all paint supplies. Register here.
Urban Composting How-To at Northampton Community College (6-8:30pm/ $29)
Ever feel totally shitty about throwing away your food scraps? You know they’ll never get to decompose as nature intended when they’re tossed into a plastic garbage bag. That can all change if you hit up this event and learn the basics of vermicomposting—composting with WORMS! This method produces amazing compost for flower beds, raised beds, and patio pots. Yes, this may be the least sexy event we’ve promoted, but it’s freakin cool. Register here.
Ayurveda 101 at Emmaus Public Library (10-11am/Free)
Ayurveda is a way of living and taking care of yourself that has been practiced in India for thousands of years—and it teachings are catching on in the Western world now, too. One of the main principles of Ayurveda is that every person has a dosha (or mind-body type), which dictates everything from what we should eat to how we should move. Pretty cool, right? To learn more about Ayurveda, join Michelle Costantini for an introduction to its benefits and to learn a little bit more about yourself in the process.
Mom and Baby Yoga at St. Luke’s Baby and Me Support Center (1:30-2:30pm/ $15)
Hey new mamas! If you’ve been feeling housebound, grab the little nugget and head to this class all levels class that focuses on incorporating yoga to get back into shape after pregnancy and childbirth. Moms will flow through a yoga practice and partner with baby through the sequence. Register here.
LV Art Wars at the Alternative Gallery in Allentown (7-9:30pm/$5)
How cool does this sound? The second round of the 2018 Lehigh Valley Art Wars will be going down at The Alternative Gallery in Allentown, where local artists will be creating a piece of art for 2 hours with an ammo box full of unknown materials and substrates. Each artist depends on YOUR VOTE to send them through to the finale on April 21st!
9th Annual Ready, Set, GO(LD) 5K Walk and 8K Run (10am/ $30-$35)
Lace up for a good cause! This race, which starts at the Ironton Rail Trail in Coplay, raises money for local families who have children battling cancer. Last year, the event raised over $70,000 for the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley. Register here.
Brew to Brew 10k (10am-1pm/$30)
You’re gonna earn this beer! The Brew to Brew 10K+ starts at the Allentown Brew Works and ends at the Bethlehem Brew Works. Join fellow beer-loving runners for a great run down Hamilton Street in Allentown, along the D&L Trail, and end with a finish up Main Street in Bethlehem. After the run, hit up the after party in the Sun Inn Courtyard with beer and live music. Register here.
Pajama Bar Crawl in Downtown Allentown (8pm-2am/ $5)
This will be the biggest, and most comfortable, party in history. Grab your favorite onesie and join other pj-clad crawlers for a downtown Allentown experience to remember. Each $5 ticket gets you a commemorative cup and access to drink specials at participating bars. Buy tickets here.
